What's the Story?

From the world of CoComelon comes NINA'S FAMILIA. This bilingual series teaches preschoolers concepts such as letters, numbers, animal sounds, and colors, using the same style of three-minute songs and nursery rhymes that made CoComelon a global phenomenon. The preschool series also addresses family stories, social-emotional learning, positivity, and healthy habits through the lens of a multigenerational, bilingual Mexican-American family.

Is It Any Good?

This spin-off follows the same formula that has made this franchise famous: short videos with music that young children love, but with a celebration of family and diversity. Most CoComelon: Nina's Familia episodes feature a combination of English and Spanish and emphasize the Reyes family's Mexican and Mexican-American culture. Children familiar with the CoComelon universe will see JJ and other recognizable characters in everyday situations, such as playing, making breakfast, going to the doctor, or visiting a farm.

There's positive representation of Nina, who expresses interest in becoming a firefighter, for example. Adults are shown to be patient and loving toward the little ones. The inclusion of Nina's grandparents emphasizes her connection to her Latin roots, and episodes dedicated to cultural elements such as food and the use of Spanish expose children to this culture in a natural way. But when it comes to early lessons such as learning colors and shapes, the show remains very basic.
