What's the Story?

In CODE GEASS: ROZÉ OF THE RECAPTURE, mercenary brothers Rozé (voiced by Luca Padovan) and Ash (voiced by Cory Yee) fight alongside Japanese resistance groups to free Hokkaido from the oppressive Neo-Britannian Empire. Except, Rozé is actually princess Sakuya Sumeragi (voiced by Suzie Yeung) in disguise, and she's on a mission to rescue her best friend and body double Sakura (voiced by Xanthe Huynh). Sakuya's secret weapon: her Geass power that forces anyone into absolute obedience.

This action-packed alternate history sci-fi is an interesting look at the long-term effects of imperial rule—even after the empire has fallen. However, Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture doesn't add too much more to the conversation than its parent series Code Geass. Hardcore fans may appreciate the continued storyline and world building, but they'll find less nuance overall. Characters are still complex, and there's lots to discuss around the themes. The plot, though, is pretty straightforward and is mostly a series of mech fights mixed with trauma-heavy backstory reveals.
