What's the Story?

When Pokolistan is attacked, the US sends help in the form of a team of criminals called the Creature Commandos. Led by Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), the Commandos are sent to Pokolistan to protect the princess (Maria Bakalova, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm)... but can they succeed without all turning on each other?

James Gunn's 2021 Suicide Squad may have bombed, but it created a nice setup for this low-stakes, not-quite sequel. Creature Commandos takes that film's premise (the team is made of not only criminals, but inhuman criminals) for an animated series that, above all, really feels like a comic book adventure. Gunn's series moves fast, ditching the typical building-the-team introduction in favor of simply getting down to business. The action sequences are frequent, the tone is something like a superhero Archer, and Gunn shows a real interest in team dynamics. Plus, the episodes are short, perfect for a low-commitment superhero fix that doesn't carry the weight of a whole universe behind it.
