What's the Story?

In DELILAH, Maahra Hill stars as titular character Delilah Connolly, a woman living in Charlotte, North Carolina. Delilah's trying to find the balance between being a divorced mother of two, a supportive sister to her brother Nate (Leonard Harmon), a disabled war vet, and a prominent civil rights attorney. Her latest case starts out as one concerning wrongful termination. But after a witness turns up dead, Delilah realizes there is more to the case. Even worse, her best friend Tamara Grayson (Jill Marie Jones) has been hired as the defense for the opposing side.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say ( 1 ):

Delilah, hailing from Greenleaf creator Craig Wright, expands on the meditations of Black womanhood present in the previous series, but takes the story out of the church and into Charlotte, North Carolina. Delilah Connolly is a busy mom and civil rights attorney, and her full plate just got fuller with a mysterious case involving a military weapons company. As the mystery surrounding the case unfolds, Delilah also realizes her friendship with Tamara Grayson, her best friend since college, is on the line. Tamara is representing the company in the hopes of making partner at her law firm.

For audiences hoping to watch a Black-led series that features cultural authenticity, Delilah has tons of it. From the great shots of downtown Charlotte to Delilah exhibiting Black motherhood without stereotypical behavior, Delilah gives audiences a look at Blackness that speaks to a complex reality, not a contrivance. Even Delilah's children, who are proficient at the violin and singing, showcase Black childhood as multifaceted, not simplistic. Delilah shows that it's possible to show Black characters honestly and create a series that is accessible to any viewer. The intrigue might be what the show is using to reel people in, but the series' focus on rounded characters is what will keep fans coming back.
