Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
DRAGON QUEST: THE ADVENTURE OF DAI follows Dai (voiced by Sabrina Pitre) as he trains to become a legendary hero. As an infant, Dai washes ashore on an island that is filled with mythical monsters and is adopted by a monster named Brass (voiced by Alec Willows), who wants him to forget about becoming a hero and instead become a mage. When the dark lord Hadlar (voiced by Brian Drummond) comes back from the dead, he wants to complete his dream of conquering the world. Dai and his friends and teachers set off together to train and fight in order to defeat Hadlar.
Is It Any Good?
This anime is a fantastical experience with lots of interesting characters. Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai features suspenseful fight scenes and endearing characters like Dai and Popp. There's comedic violence to lighten the mood of more serious scenes and topics, like the loss of Avan, Dai and Popp's teacher. It's also got some emotional depth alongside the fighting and fantasy themes of magic and monsters, and the characters' personal reasons for fighting and determination are admirable.
