What's the Story?

Peacock's Dragons Rescue Riders: Heroes of the Sky is the next chapter of Netflix's Dragons: Rescue Riders TV series. Both TV series are based on the How to Train Your Dragon movie franchise, and feature orphaned twins Leyla (Brennley Brown) and Dak (Nicolas Cantu) who were raised by dragons. They protect their Viking village of Huttsgalor along with their team of five young dragons-in-training. Dragons Summer (Skai Jackson), Cutter (Andre Robinson), Aggro (Marsai Martin), Winger, and Burple are honing their special dragon talents by running practice drills and going on adventures with Dak and Leyla. Along the way they learn how to solve problems and work together as a team, keeping everyone in Huttsgalor safe from harm.

Heroes of the Sky is another charming and delightful entry into the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. Since the dragons are young and in training, the action and adventure is a lot more tame than the original Dragon movies. The animation and design are fantastic, and will draw younger kids into this enticing fantasy world.

Brother-sister team Dak and Leyla are both great role models but are still relatable to kids. Leyla in particular is a wonderful lead who faces problems fearlessly and takes the lead in solving them. The voice actors make each dragon's unique personality come to life. The dragons are all friendly and show by example that it's okay to make mistakes when learning something new.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about how Leyla, Dak, and the dragons show teamwork. How did they solve a problem as a team that they probably couldn't have solved by themselves?

  • Would you like to live with dragons if they were real? What do you think it would be like?
