Dylan's Playtime Adventures
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
DYLAN'S PLAYTIME ADVENTURES follows Dylan the dog (Riley Kai Vargas) as he plays pretend in different careers. His friends Ozzy the otter (Liam Shetty), Daisy the cat (Nendia Lewars), and Bitsy the chick (Bryn McAuley) join his adventures. Dylan begins every episode by digging through his toy chest until something inside inspires his make-believe. He might use a paper towel roll as a firefighter's hose or red checkers for a pizza delivery person's pepperoni pizza. A magical rainbow swirls on screen and transforms everyday objects into whatever he imagines. Dylan invites the home viewer to play along, and kids at home can use their imaginations alongside the playful puppy.
Is It Any Good?
Dylan's Playtime Adventures is a sweet show for the youngest viewers. The show is based on a book series, and the show's storybook-style art is lovely. The kid-voiced characters are relatable young kids who sometimes disagree or have to solve problems. Some kids will really get into using their imaginations and playing along with Dylan, especially since he invites them to take turns playing with him. The story lines are fairly basic, so older preschoolers may find that they've already outgrown this show.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about what Dylan pretends to be in each story. How might we pretend to be the same thing?
Dylan uses things from his toy chest to give him ideas for playing. How may ideas can we come up with for how to play with everyday items (like a ball, a blanket, or a jump rope)?
