A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Echo 3 is a military action series about members of a black ops team saving hostages in Colombia. The series is essentially a showcase for action sequences featuring military weapons and equipment, filmed on location in South American terrain. It has frequent action sequences that feature military weapons, guns, etc. Profanity is used throughout: the "f" word," s--t." Alcohol and drug use are both featured in the plot. Characters are seen drinking to excess, and psychedelics and prescription pills (Valium) are used recreationally and discussed.

What's the Story?
Echo 3 follows newlywed scientist Amber Chesborough (Jessica Ann Collins) on an expedition to study plants in Colombia. When she is kidnapped by a guerilla group, her black ops-trained brother (Luke Evans) and husband (Michael Huisman) decide to take her rescue into their own hands.
Is It Any Good?
This series works precisely because it under-promises and over-delivers. Echo 3's premise -- a husband and brother going on a rogue rescue mission -- exists purely as a set-up to get its two leads fighting bad guys with guns against a gorgeous backdrop. Like most contemporary shows, it prolongs the action in order to stretch it out over a full season, but in this case the slow pace allows genuine tension to build. The series may lack any truly compelling characters, but viewers there for the action sequences should find them potent without being too over-the-top.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about military black ops. What does this job entail? What do we know about Bambi and Prince's work? How does the job define their relationships?
What do we learn about each of the three main characters -- their pasts, conflicts with one another, motivations, etc.? What surprises about each character are revealed along the way?
How do the characters and relationships inform the action sequences? How does knowing the characters change the way you view the military action?
