Is It Any Good?

Unlike contemporary talk shows intended to be chopped up into Tik Tok-sized bits for easy consumption, this one isn't built to be memed, but watched straight through in real time. Everybody's Live with John Mulaney can frequently feel awkward, as nothing has the kind of polish viewers are used to, jokes don't land, and points of discussion don't really line up with the guests. But the show has a cumulative effect that other talk show's lack, seeing guests interact with one another (e.g., Joan Baez dancing to musical guests Cypress Hill, who in turn shout out Michael Keaton's Batman). The experience requires a certain amount of investment, but its attempt to rewire talk shows and play with the very idea of screen time, is well worth the effort.
