What's the Story?

In FEARLESS: THE INSIDE STORY OF THE AFLW, women don uniforms, mouthguards, cleats, and fierce expressions as they confront each other in one of the world's most physical contact sports. Australian rules football, or "footy," as it's affectionately known, has all of the tackles that American football boasts -- without the protection of helmets and pads. The women documented in this series come from farming outposts and urban areas alike to play on the highest level of their sport with passion.

Grit and joy mingle with tears and pride in this skillfully documented series about the first professional women's Australian rules football league. Fearless: The Inside Story of the AFLW lovingly tells the story of women whose passion it has been to break the glass ceiling of a hard-hitting contact sport. At the peak of their athletic form, these women are unapologetically joyful when they take to the field. Their coaches (all male, as it happens) lovingly support their "girls," guiding them with commitment and grace through all aspects of their sporting lives.

Parents and teens can watch this one with the awe deserving of women who break barriers. The storytelling of the documentary flows well without indulging in overly dramatic gossip.
