What's the Story?

In FIASCO Raphaël Valande (Pierre Niney) is a director who's telling the story of his grandmother's role in the French resistance during World War II. He's got a financial backer, he's got a great cast, he's got realistic sets. What he doesn't have is a clue about directing a movie. Actors demand changes he doesn't have the budget to make, stunts go sideways, and on top of it all, someone is secretly threatening to ruin him. Will the film be finished? Or will Raphaël be finished first?

An enjoyable, chaotic comedic romp, this mockumentary makes a meal of awkward moments. Fiasco suffers a little from dubbing, but the actors paint in broad comedic strokes, apparent in their physical comedy as well. Teens and parents should be aware that there's lots of language in this show, but there's a strong script underneath the F-bombs.

A plot twist in which a "mole" blackmails the filmmakers provides urgency, which makes this show even more watchable. Fans of mockumentaries and parodies will definitely appreciate this amusing series.
