What's the Story?

FOREVER starts off at a teen house party on New Year's Eve. Justin Edwards (Michael Cooper Jr.) and Keisha Clark (Lovie Simone) catch each other's eye and instantly hit it off. It turns out the two were childhood friends; they quickly reconnect and soon fall in love. But as seniors in high school, the two have a lot on their plates. Justin struggles to balance his studies, manage his ADHD, and keep up with basketball. Keisha just wants to stay at the top of her class, run track, and keep a low profile as past mistakes haunt her. As the two face pressures from their families and themselves, can they grow through the motions together?

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say ( 3 ):
Kids say ( 2 ):

This series balances the heartfelt love and harsh realities that come with growing up. Forever is emotional, charming, topical, and realistic. Cooper Jr. and Simone have great chemistry: They're endearing, awkward, and imperfect. The story navigates sweet romance and real-world issues smoothly. Fans of the original novel will find this adaptation refreshing. The sex, language, and drug use make this suitable for older teens. There's a lot of potential for parents to discuss the effects of social media, the pressures of sex, and other topical issues with their teens.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about how Forever depicts teens. Are the characters and their decisions realistic? What about the consequences of those decisions? Do these characters seem like people you might know? Why, or why not?

  • This series is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Judy Blume, published in 1975. If you've read the book, how does this interpretation compare? How are some of the issues in the novel portrayed in this series, which is set in 2018?

  • Families can talk about safe sex. Why is it important to talk about this sometimes awkward but essential topic? How do the parents and teens in Forever go about it?
