What's the Story?

FREE BERT is a series about comedian Bert Kreischer as he and his (fictitious) family try to fit into Los Angeles high society. Bert's a successful stand-up comedian who's known for keeping his shirt off while performing as a wild middle-aged party guy. But his wife LeAnn (Arden Myrin) is trying to tone down his style to better fit in with the Beverly Hills crowd, especially the other parents at Barklidge Academy, the upscale private school his daughters Georgia (Ava Ryan) and Ila (Lilou Lang) are now attending. Trying to keep his shirt on and remain subdued isn't Bert's style, and he isn't always successful. Nonetheless, he's doing his best to figure out how to make it work for the sake of his family.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

The mildly funny scripted comedy series offers an overall "fish out of water" plot line based on Bert Kreischer and his family's experiences navigating life in Beverly Hills, California. Free Bert is a platform for the irreverent story-driven, autobiographical comedy Kreischer is known for, but unlike many other comedian-driven shows, it's not a collection of vignettes intended to showcase it. Instead, Free Bert offers an ongoing narrative that progresses with each installment, creating a story world that's genuine and relatable. There's also some fun guest appearances by celebs like Rob Lowe, T-Pain, and Pacman Jones. Granted, the writing could be tighter, and some jokes better timed. The endless cursing gets a little old. But it's still entertaining enough to binge-watch if you enjoy Kreischer's work, or are just looking for some adult amusement.
