First things off I have been a major fan of the series for some time now and would recommend it as a must see for anyone who enjoys animation. It is definitely one of the better shows that can be enjoyed by avid watchers of animation and even those who may not particularly enjoy this style of entertainment. For fans of this genre of entertainment the show incorporates a perfect blend of strong character development, an interesting and heartbreaking plot, brilliant animation, realistic situations(not talking about the alchemy), amazing music, relate able characters. Now I would like to point out that Full metal Alchemist is not meant to a child's show but a show for teen's and adult's, but it can be enjoyed by a younger audience if you know you child. In the description they mention a serial killer who carves up women in the violence, but I would like to point out that this was incredibly minor to the plot and was only in one episode. Most of the violence and disturbing images have to do with the transmutation of the mother as well as Ed's mutilated limbs, and when the character Scar kills soldiers. At other times the much gorier scenes may not even be shown or it is slightly censored using camera and object position. On another note the alcohol and smoking is minor, nothing worse than you would see a man smoking on the street or walking by a bar. The language can be a problem, but if anything it is more tamer in the dub than the sub or source material. Some characters do say "h*ll" or "b@st@rd" but that is usually the extent of it, and the dialogue is not completely plastered with profanity as it would be in other shows. Now while there is no sexual content, there is some nudity, but don't worry it is in no way meant to be sexual but is in, for lack of better words, spiritual, and is done so in a way where you don't see anything. One thing parents need to consider it that the show has many themes and characters that fall in the balance of good and evil and none of the characters are really good or bad, such as in reality, and if you do not want your child to be confused by this then be prepared to explain it to them. Also while the show has many dark themes, there is plenty of comedic relief to balance it. On another note a main theme in the show is about the family relationship between the two main characters and this itself can set a good example for your children. In the description for the show it mentions "spells", but that those are never used in the show, the alchemy is considered as a science, and many of the explanations for certain occurrences given can be traced scientific terms such as the chemical reactions as well as the law of equivalent exchange (what may be considered the law of conservation of matter to us). Another thing to note is that if you have a problem with people questioning religion then you may not like this. Now as a devote Christian myself, I actually do not find anything offensive, as considering what the characters have gone through it is understandable that they would question this aspect. Now if your a parent I strongly advise that you watch the show for yourself as you are the ones who know your children and this is a complex show. On my last note do not pass up this show, it's immensely popular for a reason and every episode is fully entertaining, and has kept me an avid fan for a long time.
