Funny AF with Kevin Hart
What's the Story?
FUNNY AF with Kevin Hart is a reality competition series that gives up-and-coming stand-up comics a place to showcase their work. Hart and a panel of well-known comedians narrow down a pool of nearly 50 comedians to a group of finalists viewers can vote on.
Is It Any Good?
People love to talk about what makes stand-up comedy funny, but they rarely talk about what makes it good. That's a distinction that finds itself at the center of Funny AF with Kevin Hart. This series feels sincere in its efforts to platform new talent. This isn't American Idol—no one is set up to look bad. Every participant is not only shown at their best but also talked about positively by Hart and his panel of judges. And those judges value craft, identity, and point of view over audience response. The casting backs that up, as a given episode of Funny AF may feature as much diversity as any other 45 minutes in TV. The best part, which is not a given with any "comedy" series, is that the comedians channel their identities and experiences into material that is legitimately hilarious. Funny AF certainly delivers on its title, but surprisingly offers a lot more.
