What's the Story?

In GENIE, MAKE A WISH, a genie (Kim Woo-bin, Officer Black Belt) has been searching for a being "made of clay" for hundreds of years. He's stuck in a lamp in the middle of the desert. During a trip to see her estranged mother in Dubai, Ka Young (Bae Suzy, Doona!) stumbles upon a lamp in the desert. The genie is awoken, released, and is ready to serve her whether she wants his help or not.

This chaotic and awkward comedic fantasy's dark messages fail to impress. The jokes don't land in Genie, Make a Wish, but the sadism does, making for an uncomfortable blend.

Though the self-satisfied K-drama boasts an ample production budget, it holds little substance. Teens and families can find better combinations of fantasy and comedy elsewhere.
