What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that A Winter's Cow Tale is a special Christmas episode of Get Rolling with Otis. Like rest of the Otis series, it models great preschool social-emotional lessons about empathy and teamwork. The Christmas special is suitable for very young kids, but parents of sensitive kids should know that there's one scene where a cow is upset about being briefly separated from her mom. A major plot point revolves around Rosalie the cow having a baby, but the birth happens off-camera and so it shouldn't prompt any unwanted birds and bees discussions. A Winter's Cow Tale is a sweet celebration of the holiday that preschoolers will enjoy.

What's the Story?
In GET ROLLING WITH OTIS: A WINTER'S COW TALE, everyone on the Long Hill Dairy Farm is excited to wake up to a snowy Christmas morning. Little cow Daisy is extra excited because her mama Rosalie is about to have a baby, and she's about to become a big sister. Tractor Otis and his friends pick a Christmas tree way at the top of a tall hill. Otis has to use 'the gears between his ears' and his winch to help Kevin the pickup truck drive on the slippery snow to retrieve the tree. It's time to decorate the tree, but now it's also time for Rosalie to have her baby! Daisy is disappointed to decorate the tree without her mama this year, but her friends cheer her up as they decorate together. Daisy's little sister cow is born, but she can't meet her because the snow is too deep. Otis and friends make a plow out of the Christmas tree star, and Otis clears a path through the snow. Daisy gets to meet her little sister Holly, and everyone is so happy to be able to spend Christmas together.
Is It Any Good?
Like the rest of the series, this Otis Christmas special is a gentle celebration of friendship and helping one another. A Winter's Cow Tale adds the extra magic of snow, the holidays, and a new baby, so preschool Otis fans are sure to be charmed by the special episode. The characters sing a song about how being together makes their heart glow, simplifying the meaning of holidays for their preschool audience. While the story doesn't mention the religious origins of Christmas, characters do explicitly mention that they're celebrating Christmas. Kids who don't celebrate Christmas may get less out of the special, but those who do will likely enjoy this sweet episode.
