What's the Story?
GOOD COP/BAD COP is a comedy series about the antics of a sister and brother detective duo in a small town in Washington State. Lou Hickman (Leighton Meester) is the only police detective in the Eden Vale P.D., where she works with officers like the young and tech savvy Sam Szczepkowski (William McKenna), Marine veteran Sarika Ray (Shamita Siva), and Joe Bradley (Scott Lee), a former high school football star and juvenile delinquent. Unfortunately, Lou can't keep up with cases thanks to the rise local rise in crime, but her father, Sheriff Hank Hickman, or "Big Hank" (Clancy Brown) doesn't want to ask the city council to hire another detective or invest in new and updated technology, especially since he often breaks the rules in order to lower Eden Vale's crime record. But when she insists, Big Hank decides to offer his estranged son Henry (Luke Cook) a detective position. Lou is resistant, given that her younger brother's social ineptitude has made it hard for him to get a promotion with the Seattle P.D. But she soon realizes that he's a good detective, and together they can solve some difficult cases.
Is It Any Good?
This series successfully weaves together lighthearted comedy and police procedural dynamics to create a fun and often-sensitive viewing experience. In Good Cop/Bad Cop, Lou and Henry make an oddball, but likable and talented detective duo that must negotiate the political and social dynamics of Eden Vale to do its job. There are lots of colorful characters and amusing banter, which help diffuse the tensions created by the crimes they investigate. This helps maintain the humorous, but sometimes awkward balance between the siblings' police work and their personal lives, including their relationships with their father and each other. Overall, Good Cop/Bad Cop offers a compelling mix of quirky moments and complicated mysteries that make it worth checking out.
