What's the Story?

Gorillas Rumble in the Jungle follows a male silverback, the head of its family, as he navigates the day-to-day challenges of the wilderness. The documentary takes a close look at the social structure of gorillas' lives, how they survive as a community, and why it's important to study and preserve their existence.

Monkeys and apes are a fascinating staple of many nature documentaries. Gorillas Rumble in the Jungle is a fine, short introduction to the lives of gorillas and their families and communities. Unfortunately, it doesn't really add anything unique to what one might find in a gorilla segment of any run-of-the-mill nature doc. It's strictly for gorilla enthusiasts.

  • Families can talk about gorillas. What did you know about them before the documentary? What made you want to learn more? What do you like about gorillas?

  • What surprised you about gorilla life? What does a gorilla's day look like? What are some of the dangers that gorillas deal with? How do they protect themselves and their families?

  • What aspects of gorillas' lives are similar to humans? What aspects are similiar to other animals? Why is it important to learn about gorillas?
