What's the Story?
Grails tells the story of clothing/lifestyle brand Eastside Golf. Founders Olajuwon Ajanaku and Earl Cooper detail the brand's rise from inception to execution.
Is It Any Good?
There's no drama here, no struggle, just the most mundane details of a couple of well-connected businessmen building a brand. Grails is the type of video that businesses show at orientation for their new employees. Though it focuses on a fashion brand, the documentary's taste level is questionable. In one particularly unfortunate sequence, it cuts directly from archival news footage describing the police shooting of an unarmed Black man to an interviewee describing the clothes he was wearing when he heard about the shooting. The central narrative of successful Black entrepreneurs loses a lot of its impact when they're seen commodifying social issues and activism throughout this doc.

How does the series depict Eastside Golf? What do you think they want viewers to take away from this series? Is the documentary simply promoting the brand or is there anything else of value here?
