What's the Story?

In HALF MAN, the "brotherhood" between Niall Kennedy (Jamie Bell) and Ruben Pallister (Richard Gadd) is volatile and unbalanced, yet they couldn't be closer in their youth. It only ramps up in intensity for decades, as chaos and cruelty plague their relationship until they have a falling out in adulthood. When Ruben crashes Niall's wedding day, he's in a state Niall has never seen. The story goes back to the start, following a young Niall and Ruben (Mitchell Robertson and Stuart Campbell) in the 1980s as their hostile roots grow into an explosive, unshakeable bond that's at risk of being severed.

This series has Richard Gadd's signature darkly comedic exploration of a harrowing bond between "brothers." Half Man is intense, brutal, and absorbing. Bell and Gadd's portrayal of their volatile relationship is disturbing and fraught. Robertson and Campbell's performances give depth to this duo's darkness; it's riddled with stilted intimacy and oddly aggressive fondness. Viewers will definitely want to mind the violence, sexual content, drugs, smoking, and strong language in this one.
