Happy's Place
What's the Story?
In HAPPY'S PLACE, Bobbie (Reba McEntire) has lost her father, but has gained ownership of the bar they've been running together for the past decade. She's got a good crew of friends and colleagues, knows what her clientele likes and how to make them smile. But when a young woman (Belissa Escobedo) comes into the bar, followed by a lawyer, Bobbie discovers that her daddy wasn't the person she thought he was. She also learns she's got to run the family business with a new family member. Will Happy's Place be the same?
Is It Any Good?
Striking an admirable balance between Southern comfort and Southern hospitality, Reba McEntire's family comedy expertly bridges ethnic and generational gaps. In the middle of a work shift, McEntire's Baby Boomer Southern White character discovers she's got a Gen Z Mexican-American half-sibling, who's now entitled to half of the family business. Not every show can elevate such complex topics into enjoyable comic viewing, but Happy's Place makes the effort look effortless.
A tapestry of diverse voices join to tell a grand tale in this show. Younger teens, parents, and grandparents can find lots to talk about when watching this series together.
