Sports documentaries often focus on the dedication it takes to be a superb athlete; this one does that, but adds more. Harlem Ice chooses to focus less on the technicalities of the sport and more on the role it plays in the girls' social life. The series relies on vulnerability, friendship, and a realization that sports can open doors to futures beyond becoming an Olympian (though there's that too, of course). It's light, hopeful, and appropriate for family viewing. A great choice for families who are into sports or dance or just in the mood for a pick-me-up.
