Helluva Boss
What's the Story?
Created by Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano as a spin-off of Hazbin Hotel, HELLUVA BOSS is an adult animated series that follows an imp and his staff as they run an assassination company in Hell. Blitzø (voiced by Brandon Rogers) has opened I.M.P. (a.k.a. Immediate Murder Professionals), dedicated to carrying out hits in the human world. He runs the business with the help of his adopted daughter and hellhound receptionist Loona (Erica Lindbeck), weapons specialist Moxxie (Richard Horvitz), and his wife Millie (Vivian Nixon), the upbeat muscle of the group. Most imps don't have access to the living, but Blitzø is relying on an ancient spell book he acquired from Stolas (Bryce Pinkham), a wealthy Goetial demon, as a means of entry when a soul hires them for a job. What the team is doing isn't exactly legal, and they don't always know what they are doing, but Blitzø does what he has to in order to make it work.
Is It Any Good?
This decidedly adults-only dark comedy offers lots of irreverent amusement as the morally ambiguous cast of characters negotiate professional and personal relationships. In Helluva Boss, the jobs I.M.P. is hired to do are callous and brutal, which creates moments of hesitation and ethical questioning among team members that inevitably lead to some sort of chaos. Meanwhile, despite the fact that Blitzø and the gang are usually hostile towards each other, they somehow maintain a loyal camaraderie between them that they express in different (and sometimes strange) ways. Even Stolas occasionally presents a softer side to his demonic self, especially when it comes to his beloved daughter Octavia (voiced by Barrett Wilbert Weed). Thanks to some good writing, all of this is successfully presented in 14-16 minute segments. Granted, Helluva Boss isn't for the faint of heart, but it's fun binge-watchable entertainment for those who enjoy this sort of thing.
