A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this TV show.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Intergalactic is a sci-fi action series about a police officer who finds herself in the middle of a prison break in space. The series, a mash-up of several genres, takes place in a world of superpowers and space travel, but the main plot is something like an all-female version of Con Air, with a group of prisoners taking over a spaceship. Violence occurs throughout the series, including lots of gun fights and physical assault. It also features profanity, alcohol consumption, and some mild sexual content, mostly limited to jokes and references to sex.

What's the Story?
INTERGALACTIC takes place in a future that has been devastated by climate change. Harper, a decorated sky officer and daughter of the Head of Galactic Security for the Commonworld, is unexpectedly arrested for treason. Packed into a prison spaceship bound for an off-world prison, Harper finds herself in the middle of a massive mutiny, led by a group of hardened criminals.
Is It Any Good?
Most of Commonworld and Harper's story feel lifted from other movies and TV. To name one, Intergalactic has many obvious similarities with the 1997 Nicolas Cage movie Con Air, which also features one decent person caught up with a ragtag band of criminals staging a takeover. But Intergalactic's mish-mash of genres and ideas works better than most other shows of its caliber, if only because it leans full tilt into the pulpiness and keeps its foot on the action pedal. The sci-fi aspects of the show seem to exist purely to allow the criminals to have superpowers, but that also contributes to the fun. Lots of shows hijack ideas from other series or movies; Intergalactic may not feel completely unique, but it knows how to get the most out of its thievery.
