What's the Story?

IS SHE THE WOLF? is a Japanese dating series featuring nine 20-somethings hoping to find love and one saboteur. Five men and five women, all up-and-coming actors, singers, athletes, and influencers pair up, go on dates, and participate in a variety of tasks together in hope of falling in love. But one of the women is a "wolf" who can't be trusted because she's only pretending to be looking for a relationship. As these adults get to know each other, begin to build bonds, and start developing feelings for each other, the wolf must lie about her intentions to remain undercover. If she reveals the truth before the final confession, she's eliminated. During the final confession, if any of the men reveal that he has feelings for her, she cannot respond in kind, leaving him rejected. Throughout it all, studio host Hiromasa Yashiki, along with Karen Takizawa, Riku, and other studio guests, offer their observations and commentary throughout.

The voyeuristic series is adapted from the popular Japanese show Who Is the Wolf? to appeal to an international audience. It features lots of quiet romancing and rejecting typical of these types of dating shows, but it lacks the edginess of most U.S.-produced dating series, especially those that have a saboteur in their midsts. Much of the focus is on the non-predatory "wolf," who's identified at the end of the first episode, and who's anxious about lying to the rest of the cast, and being unable to admit any romantic feelings of her own. Meanwhile, as the cast members reveal more about themselves, expect relationship twists. It won't appeal to everyone, but Is She the Wolf? offers some compelling moments that dating show fans will enjoy.
