What's the Story?

JEWISH MATCHMAKiNG is a reality series that follows Jewish matchmaker Eleeza Ben Shalom as she works with clients to find a spouse. Clients from places like Miami, Florida, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and Jerusalem, Israel meet with Ben Shalom so she can understand what they are looking for in a partner and what their relationship goals are. Then she sends each one on a date (or two or three) with a potential match to see if they connect. Throughout it all, Jewish culture and customs associated with dating, relationships, and marriage, are briefly discussed.

The voyeuristic reality series features men and women from different Jewish communities turning to the traditional practice of matchmaking to find a marriage partner. In Jewish Matchmaking, Eleeza Ben Shalom offers advice on how clients should think about the process, often inviting them to open their minds when it comes to the time it takes to establish a connection. As expected, not all her advice is heeded, and not all the matches are ideal, which creates the awkward dating moments one expects from these types of shows. Adding a little more interest are the details offered about the diverse ways Judaism is practiced, and the different dating and marriage rituals practiced in different Jewish communities.
