What's the Story?
KISS OR DIE is a Japanese high-concept series featuring male comedians caught up in a sexually heated improv drama. It starts with three well-known and unsuspecting comedians arriving separately at a location for a commercial shoot. But after an awkward start, each comedian is thrown into an immersive performance experience that he has to ad-lib this way through. Once assigned different roles in the (fictitious) Dagon Pharmaceuticals, which is controlled by corrupt President Ogawara (played by Tokuma Nishioka), each must move the story forward using their wits and humor to uncover a corrupt plot that's brewing within the company. However, soon women in adult entertainment and gravure models that the comedians were made to be familiar with at a the beginning of the odd experience are added to the fray. Why? Their job is to tempt the comedians to steal cheap kisses during their off-the-cuff performances. If a comedian falls prey to her charms, he's eliminated in violent and dramatic fashion. If he avoids being seduced, he's allowed to continue muddling through the plot, which gets weirder by the moment. Throughout it all, model and influencer Miyu Ikeda and comedians Ryota Yamasato and Ken Yahagi watch what's happening and offer their thoughts about what they're seeing.
Is It Any Good?
The unique, goofy, adult-oriented "show within a show" combines improvisational comedy taking place within a scripted dramatic storyline that ends up being a game show. The Kiss or Die comedians are able to go along with what's happening, and their performances lead to a few laugh-out-loud moments. The appearance of other prominent Japanese actors, like Death Note's Mamoru Miyano, also makes it fun. Viewers unfamiliar with certain facets of Japanese culture may find the raunchy innuendo-filled banter to be a little much. Others may get tired of the absurd plot twists after a few episodes. Nonetheless, Kiss or Die offers audiences a distinct form of entertainment that some will enjoy.

Families can talk about how different cultures make sense of sexual content. Why do some countries allow media with strong innuendo and nudity to be widely shown while others have strict rules against it?
Do all the comedians featured in Kiss or Die agree enthusiastic about participating in this immersive experience? Which ones do you think ad-libbed the best?
