What's the Story?

L-POP is a scripted K-pop competition dance drama geared toward tweens and teens. The show takes place in Mexico City and follows two sisters, one of whom (Andrea, played by Andrea de Alba) is the subject of her sister Pau's (Alicia Jaziz) documentary on K-pop fans. Andrea struggles to balance her responsibilities of dental school, work, and the demanding schedule of the dance troupe she co-founded. She gets kicked out of the dance troupe and, upon learning of a K-pop dance competition in their town, forms a new troupe in the hope of winning a trip to Korea (the grand prize).

Fans of K-pop are the likeliest to enjoy this series. L-Pop has many references to actual bands and choreography, and the bubblegum colors, quick edits, and breaking of the fourth wall feel very reminiscent of K-pop music videos. The music is catchy and the dance moves are fun to attempt.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about how Andrea is kicked out of the dance troupe because she's falling behind in her dance routines. Have you or anyone in your family felt passionately about something but were kicked out or not invited in the first place? How did you respond to that feeling of rejection?

  • Andrea struggles with following her parents' dream of becoming a dentist and her dream of becoming a K-pop star. How have you handled finding balance between following your heart and doing what other people want you to do?
