What's the Story?

THE LAST NIGHT AT TREMORE BEACH follows Álex (Javier Rey), a pianist and composer with past traumas recovering from a hand injury. He retreats to a remote coastal village in Spain to find solace and work on his music. But his newfound peace is soon disrupted again after he's struck by lightning during a storm, leaving him physically and psychologically shaken. After the accident, Álex starts to experience strange visions that become increasingly intense and appear to forewarn dark events.

The show blends genre elements of psychological thriller and supernatural horror in haunting ways. The Last Night at Tremore Beach creates an eerie ambiance with its wintry, gloomy coastal setting and delivers a melancholic beauty with its formal cinematography. Its cold, blue visual tones match with Álex's dark, brooding psychological states as he can't seem to escape past torments with new challenges looming over him. Rey shows an impressively wide emotional range; in depicting a pianist in distress, he switches from somber sadness to outbursts of hysteria.

The versatile editing juggles intense flashbacks and cryptic foreshadowing with a generally captivating pace; but it can sometimes stray from the central plots given how complicated Álex's mind can get. Despite the story sometimes being pulled in too many directions, its attention to atmospheric details and layered lead performance are worth experiencing.
