What's the Story?

LANDMAN follows oil manager Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) as he tries to manage oil company M-Tex in Odessa, Texas. Tommy, who's divorced, abuses alcohol, and is half a million in debt, wrangles roughnecks in The Patch, negotiates deals, and bargains with authorities. When a drug run goes bad and destroys the road Tommy needs for transport, he advises landman Monty (Jon Hamm; Demi Moore plays wife Cami) to send a lawyer (Kayla Wallace) to handle it. And that's just his oil problems. Outside of work, Tommy struggles to keep his teen daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and college dropout son Cooper (Jacob Lofland) in line. But on Cooper's first day roughnecking, he's involved in an oil rig explosion.

This series is fired up with gritty characters and a gripping storyline. Landman makes oil rigging emotional, thrilling, and even comedic at times. Thornton's performance feels realistic and impactful. The dynamics among the many characters are complex, flawed, and captivating. The language, sexual themes, and drinking and smoking make this suitable only for older teens.
