Long Bright River
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
Young police officer Mickey (Amanda Seyfried, The Dropout) has been in the force for a while now. She lives a quiet life in Philadelphia with her precocious son (Callum Vinson). Mickey has a special interest in Jane Doe—one of them might be her sister, an addict who lives on the streets. When women begin turning up dead from what appear to be overdoses, Mickey pushes to discover the truth.
Is It Any Good?
This thriller series feels like a book adaptation, and not in a good way. Long Bright River comes across as a standard police procedural with a handful of references to Faust thrown in. Seyfried does her best with the material, but with overly precious dialogue (especially with her precocious son) and a plot that drags, it's difficult to get invested in this sad story.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about police work. What are some reasons people have for joining the police force?
Mickey pushes hard to make sure women's lives are seen and respected. In her precinct, this is a challenge. Why is courage like hers an important character strength?
