What's the Story?

Bear is hosting Christmas this year, and Masha can't wait for the fun to start! While working on preparations, she meets a new friend: the wizard January. Named after the first month of the year, he is one of twelve guardians of a magical wand that keeps nature in balance. Masha, unable to resist the power of the wand, wants to use it to show January the joys of the holiday season. But what happens when the wand runs out of power and nature's balance is in danger?

The special introduces many good ideas, but the story feels incomplete. The wizard characters in Masha and the Bear: The Legend of the 12 Months are a clever way of introducing the subject of seasons and climate to kids. However, their story ends up becoming a backdrop for Masha's adventure with a magical wand. Some parents might be concerned about her overexcitement as it often turns into a lack of care for others. Still, if you don't mind a bit of attitude and your kid is into sparkly visuals, this could be a fun Christmas special. In fact, if you have time to watch together, many conversations can arise.

  • Families can talk about the myth of seasons in Masha and the Bear: The Legend of the 12 Months and how each wizard has a role in keeping nature balanced. Did you notice how different seasons affect plant growth? Do you think they change animal behavior too?

  • Masha is super excited for the holidays and she can barely wait to get to the fun part! What do you think of her behavior? Was it nice to Bear when he wanted to organize his home and she wanted to play?
