What's the Story?
MEDALIST follows 11-year-old Inori Yuitsuka (voiced by Madeline Dorroh) and her coach, former ice dancer Tsukasa Akeuraji (voiced by Jonathon Ha), as they inspire each other to achieve their dreams in the world of competitive figure skating.
Is It Any Good?
This all-ages, upbeat sports anime is an inspiring underdog story done well. In Medalist, the positive lessons take center stage. Skaters' greatest competition is their own insecurity, but they also face the stress of a highly competitive sports world. Both kids and adult characters have something to learn. What's great is that they learn it from each other, showing that wisdom comes from all ages.
The show gives lots for families to talk about, while also modeling how to talk to each other compassionately and work through conflict. With parental guidance, the show may even appeal to preteens who would relate to the main character.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
How does the show help you understand both the kids' and adults' perspectives? What can we learn from them both?
Who or what is Inori's biggest challenge? How do you know in the story when Inori has faced that challenge and whether she was successful?
What characters can you relate to most? How do their stories apply to your life or things you've seen in the real world?
