What's the Story?

MEMBERS ONLY: PALM BEACH is an unscripted series featuring women negotiating the Palm Beach, Florida, society scene. Real estate entrepreneur Hilary Musser has lived in the area for over 20 seasons and proclaims herself to be the queen of the socialites. Among her acquaintances are socialites Taja Abitbol and Maria Cozamanis, each successfully climbing the social ladder despite living in the city for under six years. Also part of the circle is Rosalyn Yellin, who seems to be vying for the top social spot despite only living there for three years. Meanwhile, Rosalyn's friend Romina Ustayev is new in town and is trying to make the connections necessary to be accepted by Palm Beach high society. It's a world filled with wealth, luxury, and lots of name dropping, but they all have to play by the rules if they want to stay there.

Our review:

Kids say : Not yet rated

The voyeuristic unscripted reality show offers viewers a glimpse into Palm Beach's affluent and hierarchical social scene and the rules that guide it from the point of view of five women who live there. It mixes Real Housewives dynamics (helped by a cameo appearance by RHWONJ's Teresa Giudice) with Mean Girls-like rivalries as the socialites attempt to find and hold on to their places in an upscale society in which wealth is required, but doesn't guarantee acceptance into the community. As a result, in addition to hearing women talk openly about earning, having, and spending money on beachside mansions, luxury items, cosmetic procedures, and exclusive Palm Beach club membership fees (including Mar-a-Lago), viewers are subjected to endless reminders of how people are supposed to look and behave in order to be given entry. It all feels superficial and contrived, which makes Members Only: Palm Beach, and the universe it showcases, hard to take seriously.
