Molly-Mae: Behind It All
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
MOLLY-MAE: BEHIND IT ALL is a docuseries focused on YouTube influencer and Love Island (U.K.) veteran Molly-Mae Hague as she navigates building her brand while raising a daughter and sorting out her troubled marriage with former costar Tommy Fury. Her family, especially her sister Zoe, features prominently in the show and shares stories and opinions on how Molly-Mae grew up and the way she's living life now.
Is It Any Good?
Billed as an intimate look into Molly-Mae's life, the series comes across more like a slick, surface-level promotional vehicle for her various brands and projects. Between scenes of her art directing glamorous photo shoots in Ibiza and St. Moritz, Molly-Mae: Behind It All shows tense conversations with the influencer's family about her ex-fiancé Tommy. These discussions include vague references to his "issues with alcohol," without ever delving into the extent of his problems or how they affected the marriage.
Molly-Mae: Behind It All shows Hague's ex only through brief FaceTime exchanges or old video clips, making it hard to understand what happened between them or how seriously we should take it. It's somewhat concerning that her mom and sister are so adamant she stay away from him, but Molly-Mae insists the only thing she wants is for them to reconcile. Otherwise, the series hits all the usual beats of a celebrity influencer doc: Molly-Mae feels the pressures of fame, there are stressful but easily resolved slip-ups involving her brands, and we see plenty of conspicuous consumption in the form of yacht trips and closet tours.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how online fame affects someone's personal life. What would it be like trying to make it through the day while being followed by paparazzi? How does one maintain any privacy?
There's a lot of debate over the ethics of putting the children of celebrities and influencers in the spotlight. When, if ever, do you think it's OK for kids to be involved in public-facing projects like this docuseries?
