What's the Story?

MY KOREAN BOYFRIEND is an unscripted Brazilian series featuring five women traveling to South Korea to meet with Korean men they've met online. Camila Kim, Katy Dias, Luanny Vital, Mariana Tollendal, and Morena Monaco are in various stages of relationships with their online partners. Some have met them in person before, while others have only met online. Now they've traveled from Brazil to Seoul to continue pursuing these relationships. The women live together in a house for a month, and during that time want to concretely define their relationship and determine if it's viable long-term. They also want to make a good impression on their partners' families. Korean-born Camila isn't dating anyone but is potentially open to finding love while trying to rediscover her heritage and learn more about her family history. There's no guarantee that their real-life K-dramas will end well, but they're willing to take a chance and find out. In addition to the series' regular installments, reaction episodes featuring Brazilian hosts are available.

Is It Any Good?

This unscripted dating series offers a voyeuristic look at how people from very different cultures approach dating, romance, and love. Despite being inspired by romance-filled K-dramas, the women appear realistic about how their love stories may play out, especially when important conversations (usually held in English) reveal what their long-distance Korean love interests are really like in person, their family relationships (especially with their mothers), and their financial circumstances.

While trying to determine whether their international romance has real potential, the women are respectful of Korean culture but not afraid to stand up for some of the Brazilian cultural values that define who they are. Ultimately, these women understand that building sustaining relationships with these Korean men will be tough, and it's hard to watch My Korean Boyfriend without having a lot of doubts about their potential for happy endings. Still, it's easy to hope that these ladies are able to find love.
