It's been nearly 25 years since either pop star was in their prime. Yet name recognition might be the best thing Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together has going for it. Both stars are relatively charismatic, but not so much so that they make obvious reality stars. And while it's somewhat compelling to watch Ashanti balance motherhood and her career, Nelly tends to fall into stereotypical chauvinistic behavior. The series just doesn't seem to have a particularly strong "why." Why does this exist? Why them? Why would viewers want to watch this? Thus, the series feels like a very cookie-cutter version of reality TV, with even the melodrama dialed way down.
