What's the Story?

NEMESIS follows public prosecutor Sylvia van Maele (Lies Visschedijk) and tax detective Lars van Deumen (Romana Vred) as they investigate high-level financial crimes. Starting to expose an underworld of corruption and murders, they face powerful enemies who will do anything to protect their fortunes. As Sylvia's professional and personal lives intertwine, she confronts increasing pressure—and quite possibly grave dangers.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

It's rare to see a TV show as exhaustive as this one about tax evasion and white-colllar crime. Nemesis does its best to integrate legal jargon and puzzling investigative processes into entertaining, fast-paced suspense. The show's central duo Sylvia and Lars has electrifying onscreen chemistry, and Visschedijk and Vred deliver composed, precise performances that have done the well-written characters justice.

The show sometimes bites off more than it can chew. Considering how heavy the subject matter is and how intensely the plot thickens, the story gets pulled into opposite directions and can feel incoherent in some episodes. But this imperfection doesn't overshadow its ambitious storytelling that's heightened through parallel editing and immersive sound design. The end result is an engaging exploration of systemic corruption countered by a formidable badass women.
