A classic anime
Evangelion, oh evangelion, were should I even start, I love this show and if you or your child hasn’t seen this classic 90’s anime your probably living under a rock, this has some of the greatest animation I’ve seen in an early age anime and an incredible plot and incredible characters for an original anime, the last time i saw an original anime this good was angel Beats, and like angel Beats it’s pretty violent and a little gory sometimes and is also about fighting monsters called angels (sorry religious Martha you wouldn’t like anime anyway because this isn’t the first time this has happened) ok so if you read this and say “well I don’t think this is appropriate for my 11 year-old why is this such a Low rating”, and you would be right but hear me out, I don’t think age ratings matter it’s more of a maturity test, so about the sexual stuff, there is some cleavage on the Eva piloting suits and nudity (but not censored it’s more like the private parts were removed) and in one scene Shinji gropes rei’s breast (unintentionally) which is really just an anime cliche at this point, and there is one character (Misato) who seems to really like beer and I haven’t seen her drunk at all though so I Guess she can control herself with it, and there are also ash trays full of cigarettes but this was the 90’s they didn’t know how bad they were back then, and that’s all that’s bad, and there’s some bad language with a couple “damns” “craps” and “s***s”, so I’m going to finish on a good note, the intro is one of my favourites ever if you skip a cruel angel’s thesis it’s a war crime punishable by 3 years in prison where each day you are forced to watch one hour of the lucky star intro and death by blood loss after chopping of of all four limbs after chopping off all of you fingers and toes, anyway don’t do it

My first REAL anime
I love this anime- Its amazing and the soundtrack is amazing. But its 100% not for younger children. I'm 11 myself but younger kids probably won't like certain scenes. For example, In episode 18 theres alot of blood and violence- And its real dark considering the teens piloting these things can feel all of it. End Of Evangelion starts off with an... interesting scene. (It's inappropriate lol) But other than that, Me and my parents love it.

Great anime, good for mature 13-14 y/o
Although not the best, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a fine mixture of comedy, drama, and action, including a powerful message. However, there is some sexual content and other iffy stuff like blood, violence, and mild drinking. Other than that, this is a must-watch for anime fans and other individuals.

It doesn't matter how old you are, it's about how mature you are.
This anime is really great, and I think that ages 8+ should watch it, there is some cleavage and maybe some nudity but it's non sexual so, don't worry. I highly recommend this anime, also, they've all probably seen a female body before, maybe their parents showed them images from Google of the human anatomy, and it showed female breasts and male genitals. Nothing should have in age rating beyond 8+, actually. When you're 8 and older, maturity matters more, not age, that's my opinion on it, I highly recommend Evangelion, it is great.

A relatible show for teens, and their struggles
Evangelion is and always will be for teens. It's about the struggle of growing up ans becoming more mature; becoming more in line with your emotions and the hurdles along the way.
The way the protagonists interact with the world; especially their emotions and the sexual nature that comes at that age, or their relationships to one another.
Eva I believe, is a coming of age story; maybe a very mature one, but a very realistic one at that. Yes, it's very sexual in nature, but who isn't at this age. Yes, it's about depression and overcoming it. Yes it can just be described as just some robot show. But it's more than that, it's a deconstruction of what it is to be human and to grow up.
It also shows how, even the people who seem happy, truly are dead on the inside, and how everyone's suffering in one way or another, or in a lot of ways.
The way it depicts relationships, not just romantic relationships; but parental and friendships, is another thing I want to touch on. The way we long for them, how we strive to keep them functional, and how we run from them out of fear. Everything is grounded in reality, well as much as a show about mechs can be.
And I haven't even talked about the great visuals and soundtrack. For a show that aired in the mid 90's the animation is quite impressive and I hold it in the highest regard. The amount of creativity in certain scenes is beyond astonishing, especially how they show the emotions of the characters, particularly Shinji. The battle scenes are timeless and can never fail to get you excited.
And the soundtrack is chef's kiss, it has a great deal of variety that always seems to fit the moment; from the kickass intro to the soft piano of Hedgehog's Dillema. Did I mention that it was composed by Shirõ Sagisu, the legend behind the Bleach soundtrack. The background noise is perfect as well, from the chirping Cicada's, to the announcements made on speaker's, or the train noises. Everything about it truly is immersive.
What I truly love is the relatibility this show has that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. I am very much like Shinji, and all the issues he goe's through are all very akin to me, it feels as though he's just me in a werid dream piloting a mech. If your a teenager with self-esteem problems, this show will most definitely hit home for you.
Sorry if this review was too long, I just really love this show. There's much more I want to write but I feel it may be too personal.

Groundbreaking, but themes are best for older viewers!
Neon Genesis Evangelion is best known for subverting expectations of mecha anime through its deep psychological exploration of its characters and use of Christian imagery throughout. The psychological explorations include extremely strong themes of depression, abuse, suicide, sex, and parental abandonment, all relating to the main overpowering loneliness felt by every character. There are a lot of sexual undertones in the show, including between minors and adults (although nothing happens in the series itself; implications in The End of Evangelion) because it’s exploring a coming of age in the main character. This was really awkward to watch with parents though. Lots of nudity but nothing shown, except for bare breasts on 1/2 occasions but no nipples are drawn.
The show uses a lot of Freudian psychology and the plot is really complex and confusing towards the end, and it isn’t explained internally (but there are places online that explain it). I was paying a great deal of attention and still had a really hard time figuring it out; the show is known for being greatly open to interpretation, so this makes it less accessible for younger teens who aren’t there yet. Nonetheless, if your kid knows what it’s about and can handle it, then you should totally watch it! But you have to know what you’re in for with this.

There are quite a few things to describe this anime, one of them being is that it leads "Mecha"
A teenage boy finds himself recruited as a member of an elite team of pilots by his father. When the Angels start attacking the planet Earth in the year 2015, only a handful of 14-year-old EVA pilots are able to stop them. Young Shinji Ikari suddenly finds himself forced to pilot EVA-01, a giant organic mecha, designed and constructed by NERV, that is the only thing that can stop the Angels. In 2015, 15 years after the enormous catastrophe that killed half of the world population, another crisis has come - the unidentified invaders called "Angels" begin to attack human-kind. Any of their weapons are useless against the so-called "Absolute Terror Field". But now human-kind had created an exception;the ultimate all-purpose humanoid weapon "Evangelion". To operate this exception needs the minds of "Children", 14-year-old juveniles. Shinji Ikari, the only son of the commander-in-chief of the team that administered Evangelion, is selected as the third of the "Children"...!

lots of nudity/violence but overall great
lots of nudity, sexual topics/scenes, and violence but overal a great show, the battles and violence really makes the plot stand out compare to other animes but i don't think the sex with that one dude that looked like spike spiegel and misato was necessary!!! i started the series when i was 12 and it stuck with me ever since, there are many lovable characters (ex. misato, rei) and the storyline is so good. i loved it, but the movies kindof threw it off. i didn't know which one to start first + it got confusing (and a bit boring) after that, but in all evangelion is such a good series and i recommend it!! def not for kids >13 though

Depends on maturity
The gore and sexual scenes in Evangelion wasn't too bad for me, but can't say for others. Overall, if you're okay with blood, gore, depressing topics. I think you're good to watch it at 11 years old. It honestly really depends on how mature you are, wouldn't recommend for the faint of heart.
