What's the Story?

NOTHING TO SEE HERE is the story of Alexis, a young blind man from the interior of the country who decides to become independent from his parents, move to Mexico City, and pursue his dream of becoming a successful comedian with the help of his best friend who has cerebral palsy. Together, they're ready to face a hostile world that will lead them to some bittersweet experiences. Although they encounter many obstacles along their way, they also meet people who are willing to help them and prove that they're not alone.

Are disabilities and humor incompatible? Can the combination be considered a form of discrimination? These are the questions that Nothing to See Here seeks to answer. Beginning with the main character who is actually blind and a comedian, it is refreshing to see a comedy that doesn't dwell on tears of drama or inspiration. The premise seems to be "laugh with us, not at us."

And in this sense the characters are complex and not infantilized; they're on dating apps, they want to fall in love, have sex, party, use drugs. The situations that Alexis and Charly experience in Mexico City (with its 21 million inhabitants) are not alien to anyone living in a metropolis known for bureaucracy, accidents, and crime. Some are as surreal as they are funny. It offers a powerful message about limitations that aren't necessarily physical, but those we impose on ourselves out of fear or prejudice. It's also a tribute to friendship, as this band of atypical underdogs is all about supporting each other.
