What's the Story?

O'AHU SHORES follows a group of young people, mostly Native Hawaiians, living, working, and partying on O'ahu. Though it wants to stand out for being centered on Hawaiian culture, the reality is the show barely touches on heritage and local traditions. The show primarily revolves around partying, hookups, betrayals, and social dynamics, echoing other drama-heavy reality franchises.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say : Not yet rated

This reality show is heavily manufactured, with staged conflict and obvious product placement. From the very first minutes, viewers are plopped right into the middle of cheating accusations before they even get a chance to know, or care, about any of the people involved. The series lacks the emotional core or genuine connections that make similar reality shows compelling. While the cultural setting of Oahu Shores had potential, it's largely wasted on surface-level drama and repetitive plot lines.

  • Families can talk about how alcohol and partying are represented in O'ahu Shores. What are the real world consequences of this kind of behavior and what might the consequences be of glamorizing it on TV?

  • Do you think the show reflects the participants' real-life friendship dynamics, or does it feel like the drama is exaggerated for entertainment? Why might producers choose to show more conflict than connection?

  • How does the show portray Native Hawaiian culture? Do you think it offers an accurate or respectful view of the community it's depicting?
