What's the Story?
Odo is a buddy story about two young birds that attend Forest Camp. Odo the owl and his best friend, Doodle the bluebird, go on adventures with other birds like flamingos, chickens, and peacocks. Camp Leader, a grown-up eagle, sets the daily activities for the campers. They might need to care for a pet rock as if it's a real egg, or go on a nature scavenger hunt. Inevitably, there's some sort of mix-up or challenge that gets in the way of completing their task. Odo and Doodle do everything together, helping each other overcome obstacles while having fun at the same time.
Is It Any Good?
The Odo and Doodle characters are highly adorable, and young kids will strongly identify with their everyday preschool problems. Odo's stories are easy to understand and use straightforward humor that will make little kids giggle. Grown-ups will appreciate these short (7-minute) episodes and can feel good about kids not encountering any iffy content. One drawback to Odo is that it doesn't go the extra mile to make its social-emotional lessons clear for kids. The lessons are definitely there, but they are not presented very explicitly and they are not repeated to help the content sink in. It's definitely a missed opportunity in an otherwise very sweet show for young kids.
