Funny rom-com, but a bit mature.

While funny and cute humor, the show does occasionally get sexual. High school students have a ‘host club’ where a group of boys charm and flirt with their female classmates in exchange for money. The club activities themselves never get sexual. Two twin characters make comments about romantic, bordering on sexual, relations with each other. (Incest themes) However it is made clear this is an act put on to attract more customers, because it’s good shock-value: the people at school find the taboo of it exciting and shocking. A character is grabbed on the shoulder by someone who has been mistaken for a doctor preforming psychical exams at school, it is said he may be a pervert until it is revealed he was trying to ask to find his daughter but because of his frightening appearance he was assumed to be a perv. Episode 8 has some heavier sexual themes discussed below, however it’s not insanely relevant to the plot and you can go ahead and skip to the next episode when you see two opposite sex characters in a dark bedroom. In episode eight a boy pins a the protagonist (female) to a bed and while he never outright says it, it’s heavily implied he’s referencing having sex with her. She tells him she knows he’s bluffing and he agrees and gets off her quickly, it’s explained due to a fight she got in earlier he was trying to show her she should work on self-defense skills instead of rushing in blindly, though from my memory he admits it wasn’t the best way to do so. In the same episode, the female character is frightened by lightning and thunder and a different male character puts ear plugs and blindfolds on her to show her how she can combat the fear, characters walk in at the wrong moment and ask him if he’s in to S&M. I’d recommend this show for 11+ if mature and willing to have conversations with parents about themes, and 14+ if otherwise.

Good show with a few hard to ignore aspects

I like it but it’s hard to ignore some of the weird incest stuff, and the occasional off comments. The humor feels satirical, which I like and it’s interesting to watch, but it’s also kinda weird. Incest even as a joke is hard to watch. It’s funny and I like the protagonist, they dynamics are fun and it seems like the writers just went all out and made a big joke of it in a good way. I think it’s fine to watch 10+ as long as the child is mature enough.

I think that there is some pretty mature topics when it comes to ouran if your gonna let your kid watch it there should be some sort of conversation I know I watched it when i was much younger and most of the jokes really flew over my head but it depends on what you expose your kid to

Complicated 😅

Great romance/comedy anime, one of my favorites!^_^ This show is complicated. It isn’t necessarily mature but it would be VERY awkward to watch around parents. Lots of upclose lovey doves action with the twin characters but nothing ever goes to far. The whole purpose of the club is to more-or-less seduce girls, yet like stated above, nothing goes past a peck on the cheek (if that.). Great anime if you’ve got 𝑽𝒆𝒓𝒚 lenient parents who will joke about it.

I LOVE OURAN!!

ouran is a REALLY good show, it keeps u on the edge of ur seat sometimes. Honestly, once i first saw it on netflix i thought it was gonna be some cringe harem shojo , but i was VERY pleasently suprised. The charaters have actual feelings that are heavily expressed (both in a good way and a bad way). i guess if u wanted to introduce ur kid to the lgbt+ community its a good starter, even though its not explicetly expressed - both tamaki and casanova catch feelings for haruhi BEFORE they knew she was a girl, and even though it wasnt stated in the anime, in volume 3 (extra chpater) haruhi's father states that he is bi. some cons of the show would be the incest between hikaru and kaoru (only used for the weird girls that go to the club and/or to win stuff) , episode 8 (kyoya does some GOOFY things to haruhi and just a bad message in general) , and pretty small and minor sexism to haruhi in some episodes. if anyone asked me for anime suggestions THIS WOULD BE THE FIRST ONE!!

One of my personal favorite animes

This is honestly one of my favorite shows out there. It's a beautiful animation about a girl who poses as a guy in order to pay off a debt. There is minor language present such as "pervert" and "damn" and little things like that. It also shows male characters walking in on a female getting changed multiple times on multiple ocassions. (There is no cleavage shown.) However, the main character is a great role model and there are some great messages. Plus, I watched it with my 9 year old brother, and he was fine, so I would say that this is a great anime to watch.

This should not be 14+.

I just started watching this! It may have lgbtq in it but that’s nothing to worry about. Please keep in mind that in this anime, is all about romance. It is also a comedy and some jokes may go over some little kids (8-) heads. I would say ten if mature and 11+! You also can learn some stuff while watching the anime!

First anime show I watched!

I watched this show back when I was 12 with my friends and I'll never forget it! There are definitely a lot of innuendos I probably didn't notice the first time I watched it that I notice now. The main character Haruhi is made out to be a very strong and independent character, which makes her very likeable. Some of the other characters say and do some very questionable things, however it's clearly done in the show for comedic purposes. I definitely recommend this if you're looking for something fun, wacky, and light hearted!
