What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Power Book IV: Force, a spin-off of the Power franchise, is not intended for kids. It features lots of brutal violence, ranging from point-blank shootings to bloody beatings and bone breaking, explicit sexual content (including nudity), and illegal drug use. Cursing is constant, the use of the "N" word is frequent, and drinking and cigarette smoking are consistently visible. Expensive cars like Mustang, Lamborghini, and others are prominently shown.

What's the Story?
POWER BOOK IV: FORCE, an installment of 50 Cent's Power franchise, stars Joseph Sikora as Tommy Egan, a New York gangster who decides to set up shop in the Windy City. When Egan sets out to Los Angeles to start a new organization, he takes a detour to visit his childhood home in Chicago. Upon arrival he discovers new information about his family and finds himself colliding with the Flynns, one of the city's notorious crime family headed up by patriarch Walter Flynn (Tommy Flanagan). Meanwhile, after 15 years, CBI syndicate leader Diamond Sampson (Isaac Keys) is released from prison and hoping to stay out of serious trouble, but realizes that things have changed while he's been gone. Soon their worlds collide, and Egan decides to make a fresh start in the city he once called home.
Is It Any Good?
This gritty series features all the edgy content the Power franchise is known for. Like its predecessors, it's a modern-day gangster story, and contains all of the expected plotlines, including competition between crime syndicates, violent turf wars, and family strife. Nonetheless, Power Book IV: Force offers enough of a departure from its sister series to allow for some limited originality, due to the midwestern setting and a new cast of strong characters played by folks like Gabrielle Ryan, Shane Harper, and Lilli Simmons. But it is also thanks to Egan's character, which is being given the opportunity to stretch and become more three-dimensional. Nonetheless, there are some connections to Tommy Egan's former life in New York City, and the overall story world fits well into the Power universe. It's a good watch, but only for adults.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about TV shows and movies featuring gangsters. Why are franchises like Power and The Godfather so popular, given that they feature criminals and extensive (and often brutal) criminal activity?
How are we supposed to feel about Tommy Egert and other main characters in Power Book IV: Force? Should we like them, despite the fact that they are engaged in criminal activity?
