What's the Story?

PRO BONO follows Kang Da-wit (Jung Kyung-ho), a former judge whose public image collapses, forcing him to start over as a public interest lawyer. Working alongside a small pro bono team that includes legal expert Park Gi-ppeum (So Joo-yeon) and team member Yoo Nam-hee (Seo Hye-won), Da-wit takes on cases involving social inequality and labor rights while confronting the ethical tensions between justice, power, and personal ambition.

This grounded, entertaining legal drama finds its emotional center in transformation rather than spectacle. Pro Bono is at its strongest when it contrasts elite legal institutions with the often invisible labor of public interest law, using social cases to explore how power operates—and who it leaves behind. Rather than leaning on courtroom theatrics, the show favors ethical tension, procedural realism, and moral reckoning.

Female characters are portrayed as competent professionals whose expertise and teamwork anchor the narrative, and airtight supporting cases add credibility without veering into melodrama. While its moral lessons are occasionally spelled out too clearly, the show's commitment to systemic critique makes it a thoughtful and satisfying watch.
