What's the Story?
RuPaul's "drag-to-television" signature is back in QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE. Hosted by Graham Norton, judges Michelle Visage, Leona Lewis, Trixie Mattel, and Vanessa Williams evaluate drag queens on their "WAP": What they're Wearing, All-star Attitude, and Performance. Instead of "lip-syncing for your life" though, these queens sing with their mics on. From across the world performers come to the London stage to serve looks, performance, and -- most importantly -- vocals.
Is It Any Good?
This show combines awe-inspiring American Idol-level performances, a sprinkle of design critique reminiscent of Project Runway, and tops it off with the classic campiness of RuPaul's Drag Race. The emphasis on the queens' vocals is refreshing, and creates another layer of talent to explore.
Queen of the Universe doesn't have the typical voyeuristic cattiness of a competition show, but there's still a bit of shade thrown amongst the judges sometimes (all in the name of humor). Besides that, the environment is pretty supportive, with clips of the contestants talking about their lives and among themselves. Frequent positive messages about overcoming adversity and embracing identity resonate. A little bit of drama and twists keep you wanting to watch more.

Families can talk about the realities of competing in drag. Queen of the Universe performers are judged on several factors. How do they differ from other fashion competition shows, talent competitions, or even other drag shows?
A lot of performers on the show talk about being able to truly express themselves while in drag. What do you do for self-expression? What does it mean to be true to yourself?
How do characters demonstrate courage? Why do you think it's an important character strength?
The judges critique honestly but also uplift and motivate the performers. How do you give construct feedback? How do you react to constructive criticism?
