What's the Story?

In RESIDENT PLAYBOOK, four young medical residents are starting work in Yulje Medical Center's OB-GYN ward. One of the residents, Oh Yi-young (Go Youn-jung), has been unwilling to return to the medical profession after leaving her last position under a cloud. But her debts have driven her to return, where she finds herself partnered with residents who have their own challenges. Can they survive long shifts and demanding professors? Or will they break down on their way to the top?

Personalities clash in this passable medical drama that contains some graphic surgical moments. Because the main character, Oh Yi-young (Go Youn-jung), dreads her work as a doctor, her lack of enthusiasm drags the first episode down. This obstacle feels intractable, making her character rather unlikable, but as she pushes through her unwillingness, things lighten up.

Set in the obstetrics unit, Resident Playbook doesn't see as much variety as other medical dramas since the focus is singular. Nevertheless, fans of K-drama who dig into this spin-off to a beloved series will appreciate seeing the young doctors learn valuable ethical lessons.
