Ripple
What's the Story?
RIPPLE is a Canadian drama focused on how one seemingly small decision can lead to a chain of unexpected and life-altering events. Nate (Ian Harding) runs a restaurant in New York City, has a daughter, and is separated from his wife. Kris (Julia Chan) is a music industry executive with a nose for real talent. Aria (Sydney Agudong) is a talented musician struggling with infertility. Walter (Frankie Faison) is happily married and looking forward to a vacation with his wife. But when they're each confronted with a life-changing moment, the four strangers become interconnected as they navigate the new trajectories in their lives.
Is It Any Good?
Originally written for the Hallmark Channel, this Canadian show offers lots of warmth as people unexpectedly make positive human connections after pivotal life-changing moments. The Ripple timeline is a little confusing in the early episodes, but this is easy to forgive, given the uplifting bonds that begin to form. Expect some dramatic highs and lows, and the storylines aren't the most original, but that's understandable, given that Ripple's focus is really on the characters and how they're relating to one another. If you're looking for a bingeable series that is both entertaining and gladdening, you'll find that Ripple is both.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the differences between Canadian shows and those produced in the United States. Could you tell that Ripple was Canadian? If so, how?
Is the way people make connections on Ripple realistic given today's reliance on social media to interact with others?
