What's the Story?

SAVE ME introduces Nelson "Nelly" Rowe (Lennie James), a man who spends most of his time in pubs and maintains relationships with several women. When his estranged teenage daughter, Jody, disappears, Nelly finds himself the prime suspect. Jody was supposedly on her way to meet Nelly for the first time when she disappeared. While being watched by the police, Nelly decides to start his own investigation into Jody's disappearance, and ends up pulling his own life apart in the process.

Lennie James (The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead) has a rare talent for playing guys like Nelly Rowe, who have no outwardly likable qualities but are still somehow charismatic. Save Me is a showcase for James as both an actor and writer. Told from Nelly's point-of-view, Save Me is a unique take on the hard-boiled detective story, where the detective figure has little in common with Sam Spade outside of hard living. Sure enough, his presence turns a potentially run-of-the-mill mystery story into a compelling watch, perfect for a dismal rainy weekend.
